 Antonio Broccoli Porto studied Metal sculpture at La Escuela de Artes Plasticas del Istituto de Cultura Puertprriqueña in Old San Juan under the tutelage of Prof. José Garcia Campos, a renowned Puerto Rican Metal sculptor. His mentor frequently commented on Porto’s ability to create very organic looking pieces that are unique and an obvious embodiment of the artist’s tropical surroundings.Porto’s style is a departure from the conventional norm of very linear pieces and exploits a style that is very uninhibited yet surprisingly dynamic. His style combines both modernism and classical elements. Some of Porto’s sculptures seem to defy gravity yet they are perfectly balanced to create a pleasing symmetry and continuous flow to the eye. One could say that Porto’s Metal Sculptures contain similar elements to his paintings where he creates the illusion of movement through the repetition of curved planes.
